The fish pond

My last day here

Tuesday, 4 September 2012

I am in Hong Kong and have packed my downloading gizmo so am only able to send some pictures from my phone.

Silk screen panels

This was a piece made up of 48 separate silk screened panels for a place in Shanghai

My last day was strange as I had prepared everything so that I had only to take pictures of the technicians and artists who were there, get their names, so that they are with the work. Images to follow...

The driver from the printmaking base took me to the border crossing and kindly (really kindly as my prints were so heavy) carried them and pulled my suitcase up to the immigration station. He then helped as far as he could go, watched me through, and signalled that I needed to put my passport safely in a zipped pocket... and did not leave until I was out of sight...

When I got to the other side, I struggled so much that the Hong Kong policeman offered to carry the packed roll of prints for me to the taxi... I know that when he did that he did not imagine how ridiculously heavy they were... but now I have bought bubble wrap and a luggage trolley for the remainder of the journey, I just hope that no-one wants me to undo the package it is so well wrapped now! I also have an amazing amount of bubble wrap left as I could only buy (for the equivalent of £4, a huge roll of it!)

I have already told the airline I will have extra baggage with me, although not the weight! It would have cost a lot to post, so this is just the same I expect, and at least it comes home with me!

I fly tomorrow, so a good night's sleep hopefully tonight, then the journey back to reality...
