The Etching Team

Leo ran the etching workshop and was very experienced and skilful with all manner of etching and intaglio techniques, especially aquatint. He worked with George and Samuel, who were always happy and helpful. George and Samuel helped me with my photo etching when I worked on my test plate, and George printed it for me, absolutely perfectly! Who knows how many etchings they have produced for other artists, and yet each one they do with the same care and attention to detail.

Unfortunately some of their work is harder to photograph and so the full effect is not apparent on the shots I have. Samuel did not have an etching complete to photograph, but hopefully I may add one in the future.

I would have loved to do more etching but ended up short of time... as ever. They were all a joy to work with and not only because they were skilful or extremely helpful all the time. I never once felt that I was 'troubling' any of the technicians. They without exception did their best to get the best results for me. Yes I sound like a Guanlan advertisement don't I! Perhaps for me it just suited the person I am and the way I work, and I loved the experience of seeing how they worked on everyone else's work as well as their own.
