Other artists at Guanlan

Mr Li, with his woodblock, discussing its printing with the technicians.

Mr Li

Mr Li

It is a perfect situation when an artist's base like this is led by a practising and successful artist. When these people are involved in the administration of a project like this, there is an understanding of the whole procedure, as well as mutual respect. I think that is what will stay with me in my reflections: the artist is respected, and everyone respects each other.

Nicole

Nicole

Nicole is from Tasmania and arrived just after me. She was working with litho and etching and said she often was inspired by the textures of decay and nature, so was working with those at the base, using an etching plate here.

Hugh Merrill

Hugh Merrill

Hugh came to work with woodblock, in black and white. He was keen to get into colour, but Mr Li suggested he keep to his original intention, which was looking well as I left.

Paul Lu

Paul Lu

Paul Lu was working on woodblocks from images he had collected in Australia. He is from Perth, and travelled to Guanlan because of their expertise with woodblock, as his projected pieces are large and complex undertakings.
